                                                 RAISING A BILINGUAL CHILDREN

When people migrate to another country, they are sometimes confuse either they should raise their children with both their native language and the language of the country they live in, or just the language of the country they live in.  Parents that are fortunate to be from another portion of the world and capable of speaking a second language should make sure to give their children the gift of been able to do the same by raising them bilingual. Raising a bilingual child can open doors for a better future for the kids, expose them to a greater number of social networks, make them aware of other cultural differences, and can help them take part in the life of two or more cultures.

Even though it might be difficult at the beginning for the kids to combine the two or more languages together, it is amazing how kids catch on so quickly as time goes on, no matter what language they are brought up to speak. I experienced this while I was raising my children as well. My kids were confused most especially when they started going to school, but it all work out for my family and me now because my kids can speak fluently in my language which is  (Yoruba), English, and Spanish. I feel accomplished and happy whenever my children communicate with my friends and family when we travel to my country (Nigeria).

Raising children bilingual makes them smart, brilliant to function and understand more efficiently.  As bilingual kids grow up in life, they will be aware of which language to speak with the different person in a particular situation. Knowing and understanding another language increases bilinguals appreciation of another culture. It is enjoyable to be able to speak and understand to individuals in another language, whether they travel abroad, or if they happen to meet people from another country. Speaking, communicating and understanding more than one language can also be useful for bilingual people to get a better and well-paid job all over the world.

Some parent of bilingual children might be worried that their children might face communication problems. Furthermore,  they argue that raising bilingual children might be like wasting time, and no point of teaching their children another language if they will not continue to express themselves easily with the language. Their parent should not worry, their kid’s brain will develop well, and they will quickly adjust to the new environment, language, or culture.  Instead, the parent should hope that allowing their children to learn other language makes their children grow up well rounded, open minded individuals who would like and want to learn new things; they will be able to appreciate different people, their language, and culture.

Therefore, raising bilingual children is never a waste of time for the parents because kids develop better when they learn two or more languages from their parents. Above all, it is a great privilege for the lucky children that have parents to give them the great opportunity for them to be able to succeed and excel in their future.

                                               Cultural Conflicts
People traveling to another country in any part of the world, either for business purpose, education, or migrating there permanently to better their lives, should be open to learning new things they don’t consider to be provoking or insulting. For example, some cultures do not make eye contact; they count it as a sign of disrespect. While in the United States culture, It shows politeness when people look at the person they are talking to in the eyes. Therefore, a person spending time in a new culture where eye contact is different should adapt to the new culture's ways. Cultural conflict has multiple causes and can create negative consequences in society.
Anywhere there are more than one cultures, tension can be created by the people of each culture. This trouble can pull people together, or it can push them in unexpected directions that can cause conflicts. Cultural conflicts can negatively contribute to the behavior  of the people from different cultures living in another country they migrate to.  Cultural conflict can also happen if people do not respect each other’s cultural background and do not even try to learn and understand.
When cultural conflicts occur, it can escalate to a huge controversy if not carefully resolved.  However, conflict can sabotage people’s ability to function effectively in the country they migrate. For example, if people think others cannot understand them when they speak in public, they stay quiet most of the time in public. In order to avoid cultural conflict, people should tolerate and be patient with one and another, and take the time to understand the causes of the conflict, be a good listener to both sides of the conflicts, and dialogue the matter with respect and trust for both parties.

In conclusion, unlesss people develop comfort with culture as an integral part of the battle, they may find themselves tangled in the net of complexity, limited by their culture lenses. Also, people should compromise and allow themselves to achieve the best not only from their own cultural backgrounds, but also from by learning about the backgrounds of others.

                                                    American and Nigerian Culture.
American and Nigerian cultures are the same in some ways and different in others. The difference between these two cultures can be an individual experience and knowledge of culture in both countries.  The difference between the cultures can shape the experience and knowledge of the people who live there. For instance, Nigerian consists of over 150 ethnicities, each of which has its own language, culture, and traditions. On the other hand, American culture is different in its own way, like the way like the Northerners speak and behave different from the Southerners, but their social aspects are much alike across the United States. In these aspects, culture is one of the ways people value and respect each other.
Nigeria is a ranked society where age and position demand respect. Age is believed to be wisdom, so older people are granted respect. The oldest adult in a group is revered and honored. In social gatherings, the elders are greeted and served first. In contrast,  Americans respect their elders as well, but they treat everyone equally, and they also believe in first come first serve. Everyone is treated the same way in America.
Another example is that American parents are more lenient and more affectionate with their children and are open to meeting g and knowing the people their kids are dating. Whereas in Nigeria parents are very strict and not friendly and not open to meeting or understanding their children.

In conclusion, every country has their cultures, traditions, beliefs, and practices, it might be different with each other, but I think people from every culture should respect, treat, and tolerate each other. All these qualities can enable all the people around the world to live with each other with love and understanding.

A culture can be characterized by custom and tradition that differentiates people from another. Culture is practiced anywhere human being resides, and people with culture have ways they practice their culture like the language they speak, their food, festival, religion, and the way they dress. Many people migrate from their particular country to another for some reason, maybe as refugees or by winning visa lottery to better their lives. People should not be shy or should not forget to continue their culture. Therefore, there are many reasons people should not forget to keep their culture.

However, culture does not stay the same; things like technology, environmental change a new idea and often influences culture. When people are fortunate to travel to another country to visit or live, they expect the people in that country to be able to understand and be able to communicate with them in their language, which is not always like that. In that case, people should be proud to speak their native language when they are lucky to meet the people that speak the same language. My suggestion is that all immigrants should be proud to speak their mother tongue freely.

Many people from West African that are here in the States and the United Kingdom I knew only communicate with their children in the English language, which as a result, deprive their kids of not been able to speak their parent's language. Also, they are not familiar with their culture as well.

Culture and other things that surround it are beautiful. Therefore, people with a different culture that are in another country should not forget the culture of where they came from, and should not deprive their offspring of knowing part of their background. It feels good to me when I see people speaking in their language and maintaining their culture in all aspects.
